SHAH ALAM: Supporters of former political aide Teoh Beng Hock have renewed calls for the police to investigate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers involved in the Teoh case 16 years ago, in which he was found dead while being held for investigation.
Ng Yap Ywa, president of the Teoh Beng Huat Association for Democratic Advancement, witness testimonies should be given priority in the investigation.
“Witnesses are key. We hope the police will handle this investigation independently and professionally,” he said after giving his statement at the Selangor police headquarters today as part of the renewed probe.
Ng also handed over a report summarising MACC’s operations at the time, including a list of 34 officers involved in Teoh’s case.
Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong, who was present to show support, acknowledged the challenges of reopening a case 16 years later but hoped new technology would help.
Teoh, an aide to then Selangor executive council member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead in July 2009 on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, hours after he had arrived for questioning on the 14th floor, which housed the Selangor MACC headquarters.
On Nov 21 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the police to complete their investigation within six months.
Last week, police visited the scene and used 3D scanning technology to reconstruct the incident site at Plaza Masalam as part of their investigation.
