Public Warned Of STR Scam Circulating In WhatsApp

0

The public is being cautioned against falling for fake messages related to the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash assistance scheme that are currently circulating via WhatsApp. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil on social media has warned that these messages, which often include suspicious links, may be part of fraudulent online investment schemes or scams designed to gain unauthorised access to users’ accounts on the platform.

“Be careful with messages like these spreading on WhatsApp,” he said. “If you click, you will lose access to your WhatsApp application.”

According to Bernama, the warning follows the circulation of a viral message since yesterday, which contains a link purportedly allowing the public to check and claim STR assistance. Authorities believe the message is part of a wider effort to exploit public trust in government initiatives for malicious purposes.

Fahmi also emphasised the importance of verifying any claims related to government aid through official channels. For updates concerning the STR, the public is advised to refer directly to its official website at https://bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my/.
