PETALING JAYA: The father of a 15-year-old girl, believed to have been murdered and thrown into a river, claimed her body from the mortuary at Banting Hospital today.
Yap Eng You arrived at the hospital alone at about 8am and left with the remains of his daughter, Xin Yuan, which were placed in a white coffin, an hour later before heading to a crematorium in Cheras.
Yap told China Press he and his family found it difficult to come to terms with the news of Xin Yuan’s death, but they had no choice but to “confront the harsh reality”.
Xin Yuan had been reported missing on Dec 19 after she failed to return home from a lion dance practice at a basketball court at Batu 11, Cheras.
Her decomposed body was found in Banting on Dec 28.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said three suspects, aged 16, 20 and 51, were arrested to assist in the investigation. They included her boyfriend.
