PETALING JAYA: Former Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) assemblyman Abdul Rahman Kongkawang has joined Jeffrey Kitingan’s Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) today.
In a Facebook post, STAR president Kitingan said Rahman, a former Labuk assemblyman, received his STAR membership card in Kota Kinabalu today.
Rahman was elected Labuk assemblyman in 2018 on a PBS ticket, when the party was still in Barisan Nasional.
He defected to Warisan in 2019 but sought to defend his state seat as an independent candidate during the 2020 Sabah polls in a five-cornered race.
The contest was won by Bersatu’s Samad Jambri who garnered 2,701 votes, ahead of Upko’s Dennis Tweening Rantau (1,493), and Rahman (1,441).
PBS and STAR, currently allies under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition, signed a pact in April aimed at unifying the votes of the Kadazandusun Murut community.
