Australia ‘heading towards’ a Central Bank Digital Currency

Author and Economist Paul Sheard says Australia is “heading towards” a Central Bank Digital Currency.

Mr Sheard told Sky News Australia that the technology is “unfolding in that direction”.

“But Central Banks … have embraced the idea.

“Is it a good thing? Is it a bad thing? You know, I think it depends on how it’s handled.

“I think certainly … a lot of guardrails need to be put around this.”
