Singapore’s most iconic hotel, Marina Bay Sands (MBS), announced it will begin the full-scale construction of its multi-billion dollar expansion in July 2025. The expansion is said to include a new hotel tower and an entertainment arena and targets for completion by July 2029.
In a statement released on 5th April, the integrated resort said it has entered the final phase of design improvements. The expansion is designed by Safdie Architects, the architects of the existing property, and led by Moshe Safdie. The expansion includes a luxury hotel tower with a sky roof, a 15,000-seat entertainment arena and additional MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences & exhibition) space.
According to MBS, the arena is designed to be the leading live entertainment venue in Asia and will help attract top entertainers from around the world. Patrick Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Marina Bay Sands’ parent company, Las Vegas Sands, said, “With the ongoing support of the Singapore Government, this development will further enhance the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore. It optimises the site’s programming elements and is designed to drive high-value tourism growth to Singapore.”
Also expected in the expansion are new food and beverage and nightlife offerings. The existing property currently houses several celebrity chef restaurants, including Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen and Wolfgang Puck’s CUT. Unfortunately, MBS didn’t share information about the new fourth hotel tower. However, an artist’s impression of the project shows that the fourth tower will be positioned further from the existing three, with the entertainment arena in between.
While the statement didn’t share the exact figure for this multi-billion dollar expansion, Marina Bay Sands states that the project is separate from its US$1.75 billion reinvestment into the existing property. The reinvestment is the largest since its opening in 2010, and the resort has reported a complete refurbishment on Hotel Towers 1 and 2, plus additional dining offerings and amenities.
