IPOH: Once an important town in the centre of the Kinta Valley’s booming tin industry, Ipoh today has proudly taken on the role as one of Malaysia’s top tourist destinations.
It is little wonder why, given that the historical city has many sights to see and even many more delicacies to savour.
If you’re planning a trip to Ipoh anytime soon, you’ll have a comfortable stay at Weil Hotel, an establishment that offers equal parts comfort and hospitality.
Established in 2014, the hotel occupies a pretty lofty spot in the city centre, close to many of Ipoh’s attractions.

In fact, it overlooks the famous Sam Tet secondary school, and is adjacent and connected to Ipoh Parade. The city’s famous Dessert Street is within walking distance too. Another plus point is the availability of parking lots – Weil has a designated parking zone within Ipoh Parade.
In the hotel industry, first impressions matter. Regardless of whether this is true, Weil does present itself rather admirably with its polished marble floors and comfortable waiting lounges.
Even more impressive is its good counter service. The staff here are courteous and efficient; even during peak check-in and check-out hours.

With over 300 rooms at your disposal, if you’re a solo traveller on a tight budget, opt for the Deluxe or Superior Rooms. Alternatively, if you have loads of cash to burn and family to drag along, there are luxurious suites available on Weil’s higher floors.
Price-wise, Weil is somewhat on the steeper side. The Deluxe Twin room cost over RM400, and studios somewhere above RM800.
Huge would be a simple but accurate word to describe the Deluxe Room, which makes staying here worth every sen.
Comfortable and well-designed, it also helps that the bathroom is spacious, with both rainfall showers and long bath available.

Just as impressive is the kitchenette, fully stocked with tea and coffee, as well as local snacks. There are even complimentary drinks in the minibar, as well as a large chilled bottle of water; perfect for those sweltering Ipoh afternoons.
Speaking of water, in an effort to reduce plastic wastage, rooms come equipped with drinking water faucets.
There is also the standard satellite television, as well as wireless internet, with good connectivity to boot.
In terms of facilities, Weil excels with providing the modern traveller with amenities that function well enough.
For those missing their exercise routine, there is a simple but well-equipped gym on one of the lower floors as well as an infinity pool on the rooftop.

In terms of food options, you will want for nothing, with the hotel’s eateries available to you as well as those located in the mall right next door.
Next to the lobby is Tiffin, where you will enjoy your complimentary breakfast buffet. Though not particularly interesting, the spread should still fill your belly nicely.
If there are any ways that Weil could improve one’s stay, it should be mentioned that the hotel is showing its age in some aspects. Peeling wallpaper may be a menial matter, but a hotel as great as Weil should aspire to be even greater in that regard.
