Following the recent opening of Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger restaurant at MyTOWN, comedian Nigel Ng, in his Uncle Roger persona, announced that the prices of his famous fried rice dishes had been reduced from RM18 to RM16 across all outlets. However, this may not apply to his possibly upcoming branch in Johor.
In a video posted by Best Food Malaysia on Instagram earlier this week, the business owner hinted that he might consider opening another restaurant in Johor, near IKEA Tebrau, as his other outlets are located near Swedish furniture stores. “When there’s IKEA, there’s an Uncle Roger restaurant. They are now my biggest competitors,” he said.

When asked if the prices at a potential Johor branch would match those of the other outlets, the comedian explained that he’s not entirely sure yet. “The people in Johor have a lot of money, especially those from Singapore since they frequent there. I may consider charging them a different price than locals, like we do with petrol. Customers will need to present their ICs or passports so we’ll know. If you’re Singaporean, you’ll be charged RM28, three times the price,” he added.
After the interview was uploaded, many of Uncle Roger’s Singaporean fans asked him not to triple the price, as they had been eager to dine at his restaurants since he first announced them. Others, particularly those in Malaysia, supported his business decision but suggested he set a lower price for Malaysian customers.

It’s worth noting that anything Nigel Ng says while in character should not be taken too seriously until it is officially announced. It is still very likely that he will use standardised prices for his menu across all his outlets in Malaysia. Would you visit a Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger restaurant in Johor if he ever decides to open an outlet there?
