The children of the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah have probably made more headlines than their father, mainly for their good looks but that doesn’t mean the Sultan himself hasn’t attracted attention for something other than official duties.
Apart from being royalty, His Royal Highness is also known for his interest in luxury cars, especially sports cars, so you can imagine how excited he was when he received a special present from the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Watch:

Yesterday (Thursday, 3rd August), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah attended a dinner event hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Petronas Twin Towers. Upon arrival, the Sultan of Brunei and his wife Queen Saleha were greeted by the politician and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
To commemorate his official visit, the Prime Minister gifted the Sultan with a Formula 1 steering wheel. In a TikTok video shared by @jason.yew last night, His Royal Highness seemed excited when he got to open and feel the wheel in his hands as Anwar happily clapped for him.
The Sultan’s reaction to the warm gift caught the other attendees’ and netizens’ attention as they didn’t expect he would receive such a gift from the Prime Minister. Many commented on the Twitter post saying they were happy for His Royal Highness and applauded Anwar Ibrahim for the creative present.
For your information, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah actually has the largest private car collection in the world, with approximately 7,000 cars, which have an estimated combined value of over US$5 billion (RM22.7 billion).
While the F1 steering wheel from the Malaysian Prime Minister may seem small in comparison to his collection, it’s still a thoughtful gift as Anwar took his interest in sports cars into consideration. What do you think of the gift?
