PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has ordered all rail station operators to review and improve their safety aspects after a blind man was found dead on the tracks at Titiwangsa LRT station this morning.
In a Facebook post, Loke said his ministry was working closely with all related parties, especially LRT operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, to conduct a detailed investigation.
“I have instructed that the safety aspects at all train stations, particularly facilities for persons with disabilities (OKU), be reviewed and enhanced,” he said.
To prevent similar incidents, Loke said Prasarana will implement several measures, including the installation of smart CCTV cameras capable of detecting high-risk behaviour at stations.
“In the long-term, Prasarana is planning to install platform screen doors on all LRT routes to reinforce passenger safety.”
Earlier today, the Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department identified the victim as a Chinese man believed to be blind.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the man had lost his balance and fallen onto the tracks before being struck by a train.
Loke also advised all train passengers, including OKUs, who require additional assistance, to reach out to Prasarana staff or the auxiliary police at stations.
“Passenger safety and welfare is always our priority,” he said.
“The government is committed to ensuring a safer, more inclusive and user-friendly public transport system for the benefit of all Malaysians.”
