Scales & Sakuras: 2 New Drops From G-SHOCK x ONE OK ROCK & URWERK

Watches primarily exist just to tell you the time, but there are some that are meant to be functional pieces of art, right on your wrist.

From a “scaly” sensation that’s an engineering marvel, to a must-have collector’s watch from Japan – these two timepieces deserve to be your centrepieces.

G-SHOCK x ONE OK ROCK GM-2100

The most significant timepiece partnership between two well-known Japanese brands has finally materialised!

ONE OK ROCK and G-SHOCK have teamed up for a unique collaboration that features a brand-new GM-2100 watch that commemorates the band’s 20th anniversary.

The jointly-made timepiece, which was designed under the creative direction of Ryota, the bassist for ONE OK ROCK, has a clean, minimalistic colour scheme with touches that honour both parties’ heritage.

The dial is adorned with cherry blossom (sakura) petal motifs, and the 9 of the clock subdial serves as a weekday indicator with a hand that resembles a katana sword.

Roman numerals are used to decorate the octagonal metal bezel. Dots have been used in place of clock numerals, which may be another allusion to the band name’s genesis.

The strap ring, which has an engraved “XIII” that mimics one of Ryota’s tattoos, carries on this theme. The caseback of the watch is also adorned with the band’s recently-created logo.

The ONE OK ROCK GM-2100TTTR-8AJR will be available through G-SHOCK as well as the band’s official webstore in late April, retailing for JP¥44,000 (~RM1,313). You can purchase the watch early on 21st March, but only if you are a member of PRIMAL FOOTMARK.

URWERK UR 101 T-Rex

The newest member of the T-Rex family, the UR-101 T-Rex from URWERK, combines daring design with cutting-edge craftsmanship.

Breaking with tradition, the exposed case surface is covered in an organic guilloché pattern that establishes a primal and unvarnished bond with the wearer.

The new timepiece, which is encased in bronze, has a textured, scaly armour that covers its lugs, sides, and bezel.

Oxidation and brushing give the guilloché-engraved bronze a rich, dynamic finish that gradually deepens in tone without becoming green.

The UR-101 T-Rex, which incorporates an asymmetrical case design for a distinctive visual tilt, combines form and function by incorporating ergonomic cues from the Millennium Falcon.

It curves to fit snugly on the wrist. The crown puller, which is reminiscent of the original UR-101, is another feature that improves the watch’s uniqueness and user experience.

With its distinctive wandering hours display, the UR-101 T-Rex is a reimagining of URWERK’s technical heritage, powered by the recently developed UR-1.01V calibre.

Brand co-founder Felix Baumgartner has talked about the difficulties in developing the company’s initial satellite time displays, which served as the basis for their avant-garde movements.

The UR-101 T-Rex is available exclusively through URWERK for US$45,000 (~RM199,158). With only 100 pieces available globally, it’s an exquisite piece that deserves a spot in your collection before it’s gone.
