KOTA KINABALU: Almost RM5 million worth of goods went up in smoke after a fire destroyed a two-storey furniture and electrical appliance store along Jalan Lintas-Kepayan here early today.
No one was reported to be hurt in the incident.
The store manager, who only wished to be known as Chong, said he only found out about the blaze after getting a call from one of his workers, adding that the outlet had yet to open for business at the time.
“When I arrived, a big portion of the store had already been destroyed,” he told reporters. He estimated losses at around RM5 million.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commander Hamsa Isnurdini said they received a distress call at 6.23am and the fire was brought under control an hour later.
He said they stopped the fire from spreading to a tyre shop and a house nearby.
