KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against a weakening US dollar as president Donald Trump, in his inauguration speech, refrained from announcing new tariffs, particularly on China.
At 8 am, the ringgit traded at 4.4650/4.4815 against the greenback, up from Monday’s close of 4.4910/4.4960.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the US Dollar Index (DXY) fell 1.16% to 108.082 points following the US president’s inauguration speech last night.
