Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised the critical importance of mastering digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) from the school level. Speaking at the Santuni Kasih programme at SMJK Poi Lam in Ipoh on Friday, he highlighted that these fields represent the future, and early exposure is essential for students to remain competitive.
Anwar stressed that the nation’s progress depends on equipping the younger generation with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. He pointed out that Malaysia is currently making significant strides in attracting major investments, especially in sectors such as semiconductors, data centres and AI. These advancements demand a new calibre of knowledge and capability among students.

The Prime Minister noted that universities nationwide have already established AI faculties, units, and departments across various disciplines to address this need. He further urged that changes must begin promptly at the school level, without prolonged planning periods.
Anwar also suggested that even if it is not feasible to launch programmes in 100 schools immediately, beginning with 50 would still mark meaningful progress. According to him, bold action and swift adaptation are necessary to keep pace with the demands of a digital future.
