PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) president P Punithan said PAS provides greater opportunities for him to champion the plight of the Indian community when compared to the unity government.
The ex-MIC Youth leader said he was questioned over MIPP’s decision to join Perikatan Nasional due to the Islamic party’s presence in the coalition.
Punithan claimed that when PAS was part of the federal government, under the administration of Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the “Chinese and Indians never had a problem”.
However, the situation was different now with the Indian community still putting up with many issues, Punithan said.
“What’s the point of having all these Indian (elected) representatives when the Indians are still facing problems?
“It is better to join forces with PAS and fight for the betterment of the Indian community instead of embracing Pakatan Harapan and see nothing coming out of it.”
He said this at a ceramah in Sungai Duri, Sungai Jawi, Penang, tonight, which also saw the presidents of Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan – Muhyiddin, Abdul Hadi Awang and Dominic Lau respectively – in attendance
MIPP was officially made a PN component in April this year after applying to join the opposition coalition last year.
Punithan was subsequently appointed deputy chairman of PN’s Indian community committee.
