No issues with Umno Youth, says Adam after public spat

PKR Youth chief Adam Adli and Umno Youth leader Dr Akmal Saleh have exchanged words recently over the anti-hopping law.

PETALING JAYA: The PKR Youth wing has denied there is a rift with Umno Youth after the two youth wings traded barbs about party hopping and the use of the anti-hopping law.

PKR Youth chief Adam Adli said such issues are normal when there are differences in political views. “There are no issues… it’s normal,” he said after attending an event in Kuantan, Bernama reported.

Yesterday, Adam asked his Umno counterpart Dr Akmal Saleh to check his views and facts against those of the unity government before taking aim at Putrajaya.

Adam said Akmal seemed to have a shallow understanding of the decision by the Dewan Rakyat speaker not to vacate six seats held by MPs who Bersatu declared to have ceased to be party members for having shown support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Akmal had said on Friday that the decision meant that the anti-hopping law, much-awaited by Malaysians, had been all for nothing.

On Wednesday, Speaker Johari Abdul, said Bersatu’s removal of the six members did not amount to party hopping under the law and the six MPs are not required to vacate their seats.

The six MPs are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang).
