PETALING JAYA: The education ministry is maintaining its decision to release the results of the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on May 27, minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.
She said this was the best decision, although the ministry understood the reasoning behind the call by the National Union of Teaching Profession for the results to be released earlier in view of the school term break from May 24 to June 2.
Fadhlina said the ministry, especially the Malaysia Examinations Syndicate, needed sufficient time to process the results thoroughly and accurately.
“Teachers can proceed with the activities they had planned for the school holidays,” she wrote in a Facebook post and urged school administrators to ensure that teachers’ travel plans will not be interrupted by the release of the SPM results.
Yesterday, the ministry said the results of the 2023 SPM exam would be released on May 27. Some 395,870 candidates had registered for the examination.
However, NUTP called for the results to be released earlier, saying this would allow teachers to go for their term break from May 24 to June 2.
It said releasing the results on May 27 would affect any plans teachers might have to visit their home towns or go on vacation.
