PETALING JAYA: Sabah could have a new governor after Juhar Mahiruddin ends his current term at the end of the month.
A ceremony to hand over the appointment letter for the Sabah governorship is scheduled to take place at Istana Negara on Tuesday (Dec 17), the Oriental Daily News reported.
Juhar, who is Sabah’s longest-serving Yang Dipertuan Negeri, has served three four-year terms since Jan 1, 2011, with a two-year extension from last year.
A founding member of Sabah Umno, Juhar has been a speaker of the state assembly, deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, and MP for Kinabatangan.
Among those speculated to be in the running to replace him is former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, the state’s longest serving chief minister, having served from 2003 to 2018.
Other names mentioned include former Sabah chief minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan, former Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia and former Chief Justice Richard Malanjum.
