Health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the mpox antiviral drug and vaccine would be limited to those who suffer from severe diseases or have a weak immune system.
PETALING JAYA: The first batch of the mpox antiviral drug Tecovirimat has arrived in Malaysia, says health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.
In a posting on X, Dzulkefly said the drug will be limited to high-risk individuals who suffer from severe diseases or have a weak immune system.
The minister said Putrajaya has finalised an agreement on an mpox vaccine, adding that his ministry was now awaiting delivery of the vaccine.
He said this would also be limited to high-risk groups.
Dzulkefly said no new mpox cases have been reported over the past week though surveillance continues.
A mpox case was reported by the health ministry on Sept 16, with the patient testing positive for the Clade 2 sub-variant.
The patient began experiencing fever, sore throat and cough on Sept 11. A rash appeared the next day. He had no history of international travel in the 21 days before developing the symptoms.
The health ministry had said the patient was warded in isolation and was in stable condition. His close contacts have been identified and their health status was monitored.
