Mazda EZ-60 EV SUV teased – production Arata, badged Mazda CX-6e for global markets?

Changan Mazda has released the first teaser images of its new electric SUV, the joint venture’s second zero-emission model after the EZ-6/6e. The new car will be badged the EZ-60 and take after the Arata concept, shown at last year’s Auto China in Beijing.

The influence of the show car is clear, from the purple paint and black roof to the slim taillights with L-shaped light guides. Somewhat surprisingly, the EZ-60 even carries over the Arata’s outlandish flying buttress C-pillars and slim side-view cameras.

All this has led to Autohome to suggest that the Mazda is not based on the Deepal S05 or S07 as previously thought, but the Avatr 07, which also uses cameras instead of mirrors. Meanwhile, spyshots of the car’s interior show a bank of screens for both the centre and front passenger, lending an even more technologically-advanced appearance compared to the 6e.

Technical details have yet to be revealed, but the EZ-60 likely shares its mechanicals with the 6e, which is exclusively rear-driven. The base model produces 258 PS (190 kW) and 320 Nm of torque and uses a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to deliver a WLTP-rated range of 479 km on the sedan.

Meanwhile, the Long Range makes slightly less power at 245 PS (180 kW) but has a larger 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery for a claimed range of 552 km. A range extender will also be offered, at least for the Chinese market.

Similar to the 6e, the EZ-60 moniker will likely be exclusive to China. It’s been reported that Mazda has trademarked the name CX-6e, and this is probably what export models will be called. Expect the car to be revealed at Auto Shanghai later this month.
