Malaysia begins exporting fresh durian to China today

1

Malaysia today began exporting fresh durians to China. This follows the signing of the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements two months ago.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup announced that fresh durians are now allowed into the Chinese market, a significant shift from previous exports that were limited to frozen varieties.

For a start, 40 metric tonnes of premium varieties, including Musang King, Black Thorn, D24, and IOI, are being shipped to China in three phases.

The first phase kicks off today with 15 metric tonnes, followed by another 10 tonnes tomorrow, and the final shipment soon after.
