Earlier this week, Marvel Entertainment released the first teaser trailer of the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen and David Harbour. Malaysian fans were over the moon to see scenes shot in Kuala Lumpur featured in the preview, expressing these excitement about seeing the film on the big screen.
However, many were left wondering how the studio managed to film these scenes in Malaysia undetected. While details about how they kept production under wraps are scarce, one woman was thrilled to share that she was an extra featured in the teaser.
Yesterday (Tuesday, 24th September), content creator Syaza Atheerah, known as @/geekyhawt on her socials, received the green light to share her involvement in the upcoming 2025 superhero film. According to the influencer’s posts on Twitter and Instagram Stories, she was the woman wearing the white hijab standing next to Florence Pugh in the teaser during the scene in which the HSBC tower exploded.
“I no longer have to keep this a secret 😭😭😭,” she wrote in her IG story. Local Marvel fans congratulated the internet personality for landing her role as an extra for such a huge project. As expected, many curious netizens seized the opportunity to ask her about filming the scene. Even Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and Lotus’s Malaysia were eager to learn all the behind-the-scenes details. Sadly, Syaza could only share so much, as she and everyone involved had to sign a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).
What she did confirm was that Florence Pugh was indeed present on set that day. “We weren’t allowed to talk about the project at all because of the NDA. They didn’t even tell us which Marvel movie it was or what it was about. We just came on set, followed instructions and were not allowed to talk to the main cast. We didn’t even know [which of the cast] was going to be there that day,” she elaborated.
As for her payment, since she was one of the many extras in the film, she received only a few hundred ringgit. Nevertheless, anyone would seize the opportunity to appear in a Marvel movie, regardless of the payment. We would like to extend our congratulations to Syaza on her achievement! We look forward to seeing her and all the scenes shot in Kuala Lumpur in “Thunderbolts”, which is set to be released in May 2025.
