Husband of former GLC executive arrested in RM1.4mil corruption case

Terengganu MACC had earlier detained the man’s wife who is believed to have used her position to propose and support a bid for her husband’s company to secure a RM1.4 million contract.

PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a company owner, who is also the husband of a former GLC executive officer, on suspicion of abusing his position to secure a RM1.4 million contract.

Bernama reported that the suspect, who is in his 30s, was arrested at around 4pm today while providing a statement at the MACC office in Kuala Terengganu.

“The man’s arrest follows the detention of his wife, who has been remanded for six days since last Tuesday to assist in the investigation,” said a source.

“The woman, who is the main suspect, is believed to have used her position to propose and support a bid for her husband’s company to secure a contract worth around RM1.4 million.”

Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Yazid confirmed the man’s arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect is being held for 24 hours and will be released on MACC bail once his statement is recorded.
