Yesterday (Thursday, 24th November), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was officially sworn in as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister. The news came after five days of political uncertainty following the inconclusive results of the 15th General Election on 19th November (Saturday).
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman has come a tremendously long way to finally being appointed to the country’s top post, particularly with his 40-year-long career in local politics. Soon after the news broke, messages of congratulations started pouring in for our new PM.
Interestingly, we could also see several former Prime Ministers also took to their social media to offer their sincere congratulations on Anwar’s recent appointment. Read what they have to say here:
1. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
Saya ucap tahniah kepada Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim @anwaribrahim di atas pelantikan sebagai Perdana Menteri Malaysia yang ke-10.

Tun M, who served as the fourth and seventh Prime Minister, wrote on Twitter, “I congratulate Anwar on his appointment as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister. All the best.” For those who don’t know, Anwar served as the deputy prime minister in Dr Mahathir’s cabinet in the 1990s and was set to succeed his mentor.
2. Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak
The local politician, who served as the sixth prime minister of Malaysia from 2009 to 2018, took to his Facebook to relay his congratulatory message. “Congratulations to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has received the approval of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and was appointed as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. I wish all the best in your work,” he captioned his post.
In addition, Najib was also seen reacting to a meme that shows an old photo of Anwar and three other former Prime Ministers on Twitter. The meme reads, “Raise your hands if you’ve already been a Prime Minister,” to which he responded by writing, “Here.”
