Denza Showcases Its Concept Electric Coupe

Denza, the luxury arm of BYD, has unveiled its first concept electric coupe at the Shanghai Auto Show. Known as the Denza Z, this four-seater EV signals the brand’s intention to compete in the high-performance sports car segment while also showcasing its latest technological innovations.

Unfortunately, full specifications of the car are yet to be revealed by the automaker. At first glance, the car has an athletic profile and exudes a sophisticated, elegant supercar vibe. This impression is likely due to its sharp headlights and prominent front lip.

The Denza Z is a two-door coupé with a compact body. To create a strong stance over the rear wheels, the cabin design tapers after the central pillar. Its contemporary appeal is further enhanced by features such as large wheels, concealed door handles, and frameless windows. Moreover, it appears that the car will be available in both hardtop and convertible variants.

One standout feature of the Denza Z, as reported by ArenaEV, is its steer-by-wire system. According to the company, this system utilises AI technology to maintain precise responsiveness for performance driving while offering smoother handling for everyday use. Another notable innovation is its foldable steering wheel, which, according to the automaker, improves safety by providing more space during collisions.

Under the bonnet, the EV coupe reportedly employs the Disus-M suspension system, an upgrade from Denza’s current Disus-Z technology. The current system uses magnetorheological dampers, allowing real-time adjustment according to road conditions, meaning it should handle rough or uneven terrain with ease.

As mentioned earlier, Denza has remained tight-lipped about the full specifications of the concept EV. However, regarding the powertrain, ArenaEV reports that the concept EV is expected to utilise the high-speed motor that’s already in use in the BYD Han L and Tang L models. Pricing-wise, the Denza Z is expected to be valued at over CNY300,000 (~RM180,000).
