KOTA BHARU: Police have called up 11 people including survivors and parents to provide their statements after a 15-month-old baby girl drowned when a three-wheeled motorcycle fell into an irrigation canal.
Bachok police chief Ismail Jamaluddin said the police will also take statements from those who attempted to rescue the victims.
The drowning happened when the baby girl was thrown into the water during a joyride with a 12-year-old boy and five other children.
Ismail said a transparent investigation would be conducted. Should any element of negligence be discovered, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
“Villagers, particularly parents, are urged to closely supervise their children, and prevent them from using vehicles on the road, even within village areas,” he added.
On Friday, Bernama reported that a 15-month-old baby girl died after being thrown into the water, when a 12-year-old boy riding the motorcycle, along with five other children, lost control and fell into the canal.
