PETALING JAYA: Police arrested a 19-year-old early this morning for allegedly betting on Euro 2024 football matches following a raid at a cafe in Bandar Sunway.
Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said cops also seized a mobile phone in the 12.50am raid, according to Sinar Harian.
In a statement, Wan Azlan said the suspect had been remanded for three days, from yesterday, to assist in investigations opened under Section 6(3) of the Betting Act 1953.
If found guilty, he could face a fine of not less than RM20,000 but not more than RM200,000 and also imprisonment for up to five years.
Wan Azlan said eight raids had been conducted in the district since June 14 under “Op Soga X”, in conjunction with Euro 2024.
As a result of these raids, the police arrested seven men and one woman, aged between 19 and 35 years.
Nine mobile phones, used for betting activities related to Euro 2024, were also seized.
He said investigations would be conducted under Section 6(3) of the Betting Act and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
