Chinese EV giant BYD has officially announced that its new electric flagship models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, will hit the domestic market on 9 April 2025. Pre-sales for both models kicked off on 17 March, with price tags ranging from CNY270,000 to CNY350,000 (~RM166,000 to RM216,000) for the Han L, and CNY280,000 to CNY360,000 (~RM173,000 to ~RM222,000) for the Tang L.
Both vehicles are built on BYD’s cutting-edge Super e-Platform, incorporating a 30,000 RPM motor, a 1000V high-voltage system, Flash Charging Battery capable of charging at 1000A and 10C, as well as “Dual-Gun” fast charging support. The Chinese automaker claims that just one second of charging delivers 2km of range.
The BYD Han L sedan comes in a larger body, measuring 5050mm long with a 2970mm wheelbase — a noticeable stretch compared to the current Han. It features sleek fastback styling and adopts the brand’s “Loong Face” design, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.23Cd.
Power options include a rear-wheel-drive variant with 500kW (670 hp) and an all-wheel-drive version packing 810kW (1,086 hp), both powered by second-gen Blade LFP batteries (83.2 kWh). Range comes in at 701km for the RWD and 601km for the AWD under the CLTC cycle, with top speeds reaching up to 305km/h in real-world testing and it completes the century run in 2.7 seconds.
On the SUV side, the BYD Tang L comes in slightly larger at 5040mm long with a 2950mm wheelbase. It shares similar powertrain setups with the Han L but is equipped with larger 100.5 kWh Blade LFP batteries.
Range varies between 670km (RWD), 600km (AWD), and 560km for the drone-equipped AWD version. Acceleration is impressive too — 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, with top speeds tested at 287km/h.
Both models come fitted with BYD’s advanced “God’s Eye” B intelligent driving system, including roof-mounted LiDAR, multiple cameras, high-def maps and support for urban and highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot).
Inside, the Tang L features a 7-seat layout (2+3+2), massage and ventilated front seats, fold-flat rear seating for a huge 1,960L boot and a 136L frunk. Tech-wise, you’ll find BYD’s DiLink 5.0 system, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, AR-HUD, wireless charging, and even an onboard fridge — all packaged in a sleek, modern cabin shared with the Han L.
The possibility of both the Han L and Tang L being introduced to Malaysian market is uncertain at this time. With BYD performing very well in the locally, it can’t be denied that the chances of that happening is likely, but at the moment it is not guaranteed.
