PETALING JAYA: A married couple were arrested at their home in Sungai Setiam in Bintulu, Sarawak, today after their seven-year-old son died, allegedly after being physically abused.
Bintulu police chief Nixon Joshua Ali said the cops were notified about the death of the child at Bintulu Hospital at 7.50pm last Tuesday, and that the boy was believed to have been abused.
He said they then found bruises on the victim’s body as well as wounds on his waist and head, Harian Metro reported.
“It is suspected that the victim was abused by his stepmother at their home in Sungai Setiam,” he was quoted as saying.
The couple, aged 34 and 28, have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
If convicted, they face the death penalty or a maximum jail term of 40 years with whipping.
