BMW Panoramic iDrive to be shown at CES 2025 – production version of infotainment, instrumentation

BMW will be showcasing its Panoramic iDrive at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 that returns to Las Vegas next year, which is the manufacturer’s display and operation concept for production versions of the Neue Klasse concept vehicles, first shown as the Vision Neue Klasse in September 2023.

Dubbed Panoramic iDrive, the production version of the infotainment and instrumentation concept will bring “a clear focus on driver orientation, safety and personalisation,” said the manufacturer.

The German manufacturer’s upcoming production version of the infotainment and instrumentation concept remains obscured for the time being; the shadowy figure depicted in front of the Panoramic iDrive setup is US comedian Tim Meadows who will be hosting BMW’s press conference at CES 2025, stated BMW.

The dashboard layout of the Vision Neue Klasse brings a single, centrally-mounted floating display, as is increasingly common with electric vehicles. Here though, the unit in the Vision Neue Klasse is fo a slanted trapezoidal design, as opposed to a standard rectangular wide-screen format.

Above the floating screen is another instrument display that spans the full width of the windscreen, dubbed BMW Panoramic Vision, where the contents can be customised through the central touchscreen on the dashboard. This setup is also found on the Vision Neue Klasse X crossover concept.

The Vision Neue Klasse sedan and Vision Neue Klasse X concepts were rolled out with BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive electric drive architecture, which claims to offer 30% more range, 30% faster charging, and 25% more efficiency.

Battery tech in the new generation of BMW EVs will move on from the present prismatic cell design, to cylindrical batteries of a 46 mm diameter and two different heights. 800-volt architecture will enable quicker charging, bringing it up to speed with the likes of Hyundai’s E-GMP, BYD’s and Porsche/Audi’s J1 platforms.
