After the teaser, BMW Motorrad has taken the covers off the new 2025 BMW Motorrad R 1300 R naked sports. Coming in four model variants – basic, Exclusive, Performance and Option 719 Kilauea – the R 1300 R comes loaded with with BMW Motorrad’s engineering and electronic advances, as well as the iconic boxer engine.
As seen in the R 1300 GS, the boxer-twin engine in the R 1300 R displaces exactly 1,300 cc ad produces 145 hp at 7,750 rpm with a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm, with edie redline set at 9,000 rpm. This compares against the 136 hp and 143 Nm torque of the previous 1250 boxer mill, making it the most powerful boxer engine BMW Motorrad has produced.
The engine comes with three riding modes as standard – Road, Rain and Eco – with riding mode pre-selection allowing the rider to use the riding mode button to make an individual selection, avoiding having to cycle through the modes. Adding the optional Riding Modes Pro gives “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” riding modes with all riding modes switchable on the fly.
Automated shift assistant (ASA) with fully automated clutch operation and manual or automated shifting is fitted, This fits into the R 1300 R’s tagline of “Simplify your ride”, allowing the rider to focus on the riding.
The R 1250’s tubular steel frame is fine, replaced by a new sheet metal steel main frame offering optimisation of space for compact packaging and higher levels of stiffness. Mass is concentrated to the centre of gravity ointment the R 1300 R, give more precise and stable braking and requiring less effort to ride.
A new 47 mm diameter upside-fork holds up the front end of the R 1300 R, while the revised EVO Paralever rear suspension gives greater handling precision. This is coupled with new design cast wheels with hollow-spoke wheels that are 1.4 kg lighter than previous.
Optional equipment is Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) electronic suspension, with dynamic adjustment of the damping, spring rate and load compensation, depending on the selected riding mode, riding condition and manoeuvres. This makes the new R 1300 R the first series production motorcycle with an upside-down telescopic fork that allows adjustment of the spring rate in real time.
Braking is done with twin discs with radially mounted four-piston fixed callipers at the front and a single disc brake with two-piston floating calliper at the rear in conjunction with BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro. As a option, a sport brake system is available, giving a sportier look with titanium-coloured brake callipers and offering a slight increase in braking performance.
The new headlight design is octagonal and has the option of being fitted with Headlight Pro with adaptive turning light. Meanwhile, equipped with the Riding Assistant is fitted as standard for safer and more comfortable motorcycling, comprising of Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Front Collision Warning (FCW).
BMW Motorrad also offers a range of seat options designed to suit a variety of rider heights, with the standard seat height being 785 mm. The R 1300 R carries 17-litres of fuel in the tank while wet weight is listed at 239.
