Batik Air: Power Banks Must Be Carried On-Person

0

In recent times, a number of airlines have banned the use of power banks during flights since the fire risk that they pose have unfortunately been proven to be more than just that. Some are also changing their policy on power banks in general, including the number you’re allowed to bring on board a flight. Batik Air, previously Malindo Air, has updated its own, which includes where you can stash them should you bring one along with you.

To start, the usual capacity limit of 100Wh or 20,000 mAh applies to power banks that you can bring on board with you on a Batik Air flight, but the airline also says that you can bring up to two with you. That being said, while they are still off-limits to checked-in baggage, the airline notes that it is also not allowed in the overhead compartment as well. Instead, you have to have them “on-person”.

It’s worth mentioning that the average economy class passenger of a Batik Air flight is entitled to one cabin bag that’s stored in the overhead compartment, and another small personal item. This includes things like a laptop bag, which you can usually stow underneath the seat in front of you. In addition to that, you can also carry a small handbag or a fanny pack that stays with you throughout the flight, which is where you can put your two 20,000 mAh power banks.

In a statement to Bernama, Batik Air says that while you can bring your power banks of up to the aforementioned limits with you onto flights, “the use of power banks inside the cabin is strictly prohibited”. The airline also says to “exercise caution when carrying auto-magnet charge power banks, as these may pose additional risks”.
