Malaysia is known to have not 1 but 3 tallest buildings in the world; The Petronas Twin Towers (452 metres), KL Tower (421 metres) and Merdeka 118 (679 metres). There was also a rumour going around about a possible 4th tallest building in Malaysia which is Tower M.

While they may not be the tallest, there are still tons of extremely tall buildings in Kuala Lumpur but did you know that our capital city combined with other parts of the Klang Valley has more skyscrapers than the entire continent of Europe? This netizen was definitely shocked to find out about this information.

Earlier today (Friday, 5th January), Twitter user @/slainthayer posted a photo of a spreadsheet document that showed the number of tall buildings around certain parts of the world or more specifically, in KL and European countries. “There are more skyscrapers in Klang Valley/Greater KL than the ENTIRE continent of Europe, including Russia,” he captioned the Tweet.

As seen in the photo above, KL alone has a total of 173 skyscrapers that are above 100 metres, 62 above 200 metres and 6 above 300 metres. We did the math and the total number of tallest buildings in KL and other areas in the Klang Valley combined is 279. The total number of skyscrapers in the entire continent of Europe combined, on the other hand, is 262.

In a follow-up tweet, @/slainthayer revealed that he got his information from the official Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat website, sharing a screenshot of the Top 10 Cities with the most Skyscrapers list. According to the list, KL takes the No.7 spot just above Tokyo, Japan and below Shanghai, China. Hong Kong takes the No. 1 spot of the city with the most skyscrapers.

The post quickly went viral with many netizens saying that they’re not actually too surprised by this new information. Some said that European countries want to preserve their historical landmarks and cityscape which is why there aren’t that many tall modern buildings around, even in their capital city. Others expressed that they were annoyed seeing too many skyscrapers in KL and even suspected that many of them are unoccupied.

Were you surprised to learn that there are more skyscrapers in KL than in European countries combined?
