It appears that Meta has cut off Apple Intelligence from four of its apps. According to CNET, the AI writing tools have been removed from Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads, with Meta’s own AI occupying their place.
Apple Intelligence covers a set of writing tools that include proofreading for grammatical errors and rewriting to suit a particular tone such as friendly or professional. To use these tools, the user has to highlight the text they want to edit, prompting a menu to appear on the screen. Of course, this is only possible in apps that support Apple Intelligence.

According to Apple, apps for iOS and iPadOS must choose to enable the feature. While the writing tools are apparently missing from Meta’s apps, they are still available in Bluesky and X, which does point in the direction of Meta being responsible for their removal. It’s likely that the company has changed its mind about Apple Intelligence and wants users to rely on its own Meta AI instead.

The removal of Apple Intelligence from these apps allegedly began in December last year, as evidenced by a discussion thread on the Apple Support Community. CNET has recently noted that both Instagram and Facebook will lead the user to Meta AI, while Threads and WhatsApp do not have any options to alter text with AI at all.
