Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party received motions from a total of 171 divisions nationwide.
KUALA LUMPUR: Seventy-two Umno divisions have submitted motions demanding justice and a full royal pardon for incarcerated former prime minister Najib Razak.
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said these were among the motions the party received from a total of 171 divisions nationwide. Umno has 191 divisions in total.
“As long as ‘bossku’ remains behind bars, Umno’s push (for a full pardon for Najib) will never stop,” he said, referring to Najib’s nickname given by supporters.
“Have confidence and trust in the (Umno) top leadership. And let us all continue to pray (for Najib) because prayer is our weapon,” he said at the Umno general assembly this morning.
Najib, who has three other criminal cases which are ongoing, began his initial 12-year prison term on Aug 23, 2022 following the Federal Court’s dismissal of his final appeal.
On Feb 2, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that the former Umno president’s prison sentence had been reduced from 12 years to six and his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.
Najib, 70, is currently serving his sentence at Kajang prison and is set to be released on Aug 23, 2028.
In April, he applied to the High Court to compel the government to produce a purported addendum from the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong allowing him to serve his sentence under house arrest.
