PETALING JAYA: Three people, including a woman, pleaded not guilty at the magistrates’ court in Ampang today to a charge of kidnapping a two-year-old girl under the Sungai Besi Highway (Besraya) flyover.
Factory worker DR Thevagaran, along with unemployed individuals M Haris and V Durga Nandini, as well as another suspect who remains at large, were accused of abducting a child from her 28-year-old legal guardian at Jalan Pandan Indah 1/1, Taman Maju Jaya, under the E9 Besraya flyover, at 6.30pm on Jan 4.
The charge was framed under Section 361 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 363, read together with Section 34 of the same Code. If convicted, they each face a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine.
Magistrate Normaizan Rahim set March 5 for case mention and bail at RM4,000 with one surety for each of the accused, Bernama reported.
She also ordered the trio to report to the nearest police station once a month until the conclusion of the case.
Lawyer Lingswaran Singh appeared for Thevagaran and Haris, while National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Ernie Ahmad represented Durga Nandini.
